Photos from last week

Another busy week for Kaniz & Abbas + Samarah. A few highlights:
  • We bought a crib mobile! I'm not sure why it took us this long, but we finally got our act together.. Samarah isn't sleeping in her crib full-time yet, but she takes her naps there and she really seems to like the mobile.
  • Our friends Jamie & Kim came over with their son Sebastian for a weeknight dinner.. in the midst of all the excitement before Samarah's arrival, I forgot to write about how Kim totally helped us out by installing our car seat for us (so, belated thanks Kim!). It was fun to see Sebastian try to cover his head with rice.. can't wait till Samarah starts playing with her food! (or starts eating food, for that matter).
  • Janelle, Scott & Karen visited us on Saturday. Karen really like Samarah (almost as much as she liked ghantia - a salty, deep fried snack made from chickpea flour).
  • Saturday evening, we got together with Kaniz's parents and my brother Hussain, my sister-in-law Bano and Sakina.. the occasion was shaving Samarah's head in accordance with Islamic tradition. The head shaving is typically done when the baby is 7 days old, but since Samarah was so tiny, we decided to wait a few weeks. I'll post some pictures of this event a little later.
  • Sunday we went downtown for another clinic appointment, and met up with Rahul & Pratiksha (thanks for the yummy brunch!) and his brother and sister-in-law, Atul and Sonal, and their baby Jessica. Later we visited with our friend Lauranna at her new place downtown (nice digs!). In the evening, my oldest brother Hassan came over with Nabila, my sister-in-law and their kids, Muhammad, Fatemah & Baqir. Loads and loads of fun!

Fast forward...

Ok, so I feel like I'm cheating a little bit here by posting six months worth of pictures at once, but this is the only way I have a remote chance of catching up. As you can see from the pictures, the Rizvi family definitely had a busy few months.. between birthdays, engagement parties, anniversaries, and family outings, we kept a full social calendar. Also, as you can tell from the picture above, Samarah and Syra are really starting to play well together. Ok, maybe 'well' isn't the right word, but they do have their moments. Syra definitely has a more forceful personality, which effectively neutralizes the size advantage Samarah has. I'm sure the fighting will only escalate as they get older. Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures from Jan-June, 2011!

Busy. Busy. Busy.

It's been a busy couple of months in the Rizvi household. Don't believe me? Well, here are a few highlights from August and the first week of September: Plenty of post-move issues (dealing with the builder, trying to get a Rogers tech to actually show up on time, unpacking the remaining boxes, etc.). All in all, fairly typical for moving into a new home, but having both girls home full-time added a bit of extra challenge. Two weekends with out-of-town visitors . We had a ton of fun with our guests - especially with Baby Tess meeting Samarah and Syra (just check the pictures). Having to deal with our refrigerator breaking down after 6 weeks. Let me tell you, that is one appliance you cannot do without. It was an interesting week to say the least, but we did get to live like Europeans and buy fresh groceries every day. An out-of-town wedding (congrats Julia and Shane!) Kicking the afternoon nap.. and I know what some of you are thinking, but no, it wasn't me trying to for...
