California Love - Part 1

Did we ever mention how much we enjoy visiting California? Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, so Kaniz, Samarah and I are headed back to Toronto on an early flight tomorrow morning. As expected, Samarah did really well the entire trip. She was perfect on the plane, perfect in the car on our drive down the coast and adjusted to the time difference right away.

We landed at SFO last Saturday and after a 90-minute wait at the car rental place, we headed down to Fremont, where my cousin Ambreen had graciously offered up her place for us to stay.

The next day, we went over to San Jose to visit my friend John Nack, his wife Margot and their adorable son Finn (who's two weeks older than Samarah). Even though we've been keeping up to date with Finn's antics through his blog, it was so much fun to meet him in person. John & Margot have a fabulous home (which Kaniz is still talking about), fully appointed with every toy Samarah would want, and to top it off, Margot cooked up a delicious brunch!

Later that day, we headed over to Half Moon Bay for Shobhana & Lance's reception (which was the main impetus for our trip). The event was a lot of fun and Samarah enjoyed all the attention! On Monday, we got together for lunch with our friend Theresa (who's expecting!) at a great Mayan/Mexican place in the Mission in San Francisco. After lunch, we spent some time visiting Kaniz's old haunts. The next day we started our trip down the coast to LA.. more on that later.

Fast forward...

Ok, so I feel like I'm cheating a little bit here by posting six months worth of pictures at once, but this is the only way I have a remote chance of catching up. As you can see from the pictures, the Rizvi family definitely had a busy few months.. between birthdays, engagement parties, anniversaries, and family outings, we kept a full social calendar. Also, as you can tell from the picture above, Samarah and Syra are really starting to play well together. Ok, maybe 'well' isn't the right word, but they do have their moments. Syra definitely has a more forceful personality, which effectively neutralizes the size advantage Samarah has. I'm sure the fighting will only escalate as they get older. Stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures from Jan-June, 2011!

Busy. Busy. Busy.

It's been a busy couple of months in the Rizvi household. Don't believe me? Well, here are a few highlights from August and the first week of September: Plenty of post-move issues (dealing with the builder, trying to get a Rogers tech to actually show up on time, unpacking the remaining boxes, etc.). All in all, fairly typical for moving into a new home, but having both girls home full-time added a bit of extra challenge. Two weekends with out-of-town visitors . We had a ton of fun with our guests - especially with Baby Tess meeting Samarah and Syra (just check the pictures). Having to deal with our refrigerator breaking down after 6 weeks. Let me tell you, that is one appliance you cannot do without. It was an interesting week to say the least, but we did get to live like Europeans and buy fresh groceries every day. An out-of-town wedding (congrats Julia and Shane!) Kicking the afternoon nap.. and I know what some of you are thinking, but no, it wasn't me trying to for...
