Bobble, Babble, Babel

Hi again everyone. I'll start with my usual apologies for not posting anything sooner, so we can get on with the actual post!
Bobble
So Samarah has turned into a certified toddler. As of last week, she's started to favour walking over crawling. She's still pretty wobbly though, and when she gets going, her head bobbles up and down. Not sure if that's because she's a toddler, or because she's a true 'desi' girl and the head bobbling is encoded in her genes. She's graduated from the 'zombie walk' (her arms stretched out in front of her for balance) and can now walk for long stretches (relatively speaking) and even pivot on one foot and turn herself around without introducing her bum to the floor.
Things get somewhat problematic when we take her out for walks, because she wants to walk all by herself and not hold either of our hands. This has lead to an increasing number of falls - at home, at the park, in the middle of mall hallways, on sidewalks and even on Bloor St. (road was closed off for pedestrians for a festival). Anyway, can't wait for her to start running and discover jumping.. wonder what type of trouble she'll get into then!
Babble
Samarah is a chatterbox. Not as much as this girl here, but our little angel can babble up a storm. Samarah has always been a pretty expressive baby, but her babbling has gradually become more understandable, with a number of distinct words. Even though she's got a budding vocabulary of actual words, she doesn't let that get in the way of some good old fashioned baby babble!
Babel
Before Samarah came along, the skill of talking never seemed like such a big deal.. everyone does it, and most do it reasonably well. Now that we've gone through the babbling phase, anytime Samarah blurts out a new word, it makes our day! Here's a (partial) list of words Samarah has mastered:
- Dada (that's me!)
- Abbas (that's me too)
- Mama (that's Kaniz)
- Plane (sounds like 'paa') - used anytime Samarah hears a plane. The word is usually accompanied by a finger pointed to the skies.
- Duck
- Up
- Upstairs (sounds like 'uppa stairs')
- Apple
- Apple sauce
- Apple juice (there's a distinction)
- Hi! (usually sounds like 'HIIIIIiiiiiiiiii')
- Bye! (usually sounds like 'Buh buh')
- Woof woof (if you ask her what a doggie says)
- Flower (sounds like 'wower')
- Bubbles (sounds like bubbles!)
- Milk (sounds more like 'meh')
Kaniz and I were trying to count the words a couple of weeks ago and came up with 20. Considering it's past midnight (over 2 hours past my usual bedtime these days), I think the 14 or 15 I came up with is pretty good.
Anyway, I'll end the post by sharing some pictures. Unfortunately, these are a couple of months old, but I swear I'll catch up one day. Enjoy!
