A moment like this...
In a single day, there are so many moments with Samarah that I wish I could remember forever. She's not even two yet and I find myself straining to remember details about her as a newborn or an infant. I suppose one of the reasons Kaniz and I decided to create this blog was so we would have a (more reliable) record of how much joy Samarah has brought into our life. Maybe one day, Samarah will read these words, look through the pictures, and get some sense of the immense love we have for her.
So.. I thought that while I was taking my (rather short) trip down memory lane, I would write down 10 random things about my time with Samarah that I want to remember for the rest of my life:
- The way she wants to hold on to me (or Kaniz) when going to sleep.
- The way she keeps yelling 'Abbas' if she loses sight of me in a public place. (this is great for finding Kaniz and Samarah at crowded food courts - I just have to follow the yelling!)
- The look on Samarah's face when she finally spots me in the crowd.
- The expression on her face when she's coming down a slide - it starts out as hesitation, turns into fear for a split second as she begins her descent and then ends in a look of pure exhilaration.
- The way she runs to me and wraps herself around my legs whenever she's afraid or is unsure of herself. I'm like her personal sanctuary.
- Samarah singing along with her favourite nursery rhymes (current faves: If you're happy and you know it, the ABC song, Five little monkeys, Itsy bitsy spider, Elmo's song, to name a few)
- Her telling us she needs a change: 'I do poopoo' and more recently, 'I do peepee'
- Epic temper tantrums in public spaces. Latest incident: Samarah face down in the main hallway at the local IKEA, screaming bloody murder.
- The desperation in her tight, tight hugs she gives me every morning when I'm dropping her off at daycare. I'm sure she's thinking that if I hold on tight enough, maybe daddy won't leave me here. Breaks my heart every time. (for the record, she loves her daycare)
- Samarah running towards the door at her daycare when she sees me standing there. She gets this really focused look on her face, like getting to the door as soon as possible is the most important thing in the world.
We love you Samarah!
P.S. Here's a recent video that, I think, captures how much fun Samarah is right now.. so enjoy (but excuse my poor singing):
